SET IN GUJO HACHIMAN, TAUGHT BY AIRI PAN AND HOSTED BY BLUE GRADATION, INC.

NOVEMBER 21-23

A Travel Workshop

Illustrating a great character means more than deciding their aesthetics. It’s about crafting their story and carving out their purpose within the world you create. And what better way to learn about worldbuilding than being in the world yourself?

This special workshop will teach you the principles of character illustration and design from the idyllic countryside of Japan, as part of blue graduation Inc.’s Let’s ART IN 田舎 program. Airi Pan will be teaching live from Gujo Hachiman, the historic “Little Kyoto” of Gifu. Students will pull inspiration from the local foliage and architecture, practicing industry-standard design and painting philosophies for one end goal: create one complete character rooted in the world of Gujo Hachiman.

This is more than your typical art workshop. The 2026 edition of Let’s ART IN 田舎 will be your chance to develop your artistic skills with Airi and make unforgettable friendships.

The workshop is available for both in-person lecture and online attendance via livestream. It is crafted to suit both needs, so anyone can enjoy!

Why Gujo Hachiman?

Nestled within the mountains of Gujo, the quaint castle town of Gujo Hachiman sits amongst the clouds. Famous for it’s crystal-clear waterways and ancient shrines, Gujo is also known as the The Town of Water, or The Little Kyoto of Japan.

It’s a historic, intimate nook of the country that transports you to back to the past. With it’s strong mix of history, tradition, and nature, Gujo Hachiman presents a perfect fountain of inspiration for this course.

SO WHAT DO WE HAVE PLANNED FOR YOU?

So glad you asked! This course is for all artists, but will discuss intermediate/advanced levels of process and ideation. An understanding of foundational drawing skills is highly recommended for this course.

Here’s how the hybrid on-site and online setup works.

Each day, the workshop is split into two sections:

In the mornings: Online live-streamed lecture and a demo for 3+ hours via Zoom. Airi will be teaching in English, which will be live-translated to Japanese.

In the afternoons: Live sketching and critique for each of the on-site students, which will be filmed and recorded.

After all three days are over, all participants (on-site and online) will get a recording of both the morning lectures and afternoon on-site critiques so everyone can experience the full course. The full recording will be delivered after ~2 weeks.
